Olympic hammer thrower Gwen Berry turns her back on US flag during national anthem and says, “It was ‘disrespectful’ and ‘a setup’ to play the song while she took bronze at trials.”

‘I feel like it was a set-up, and they did it on purpose,’ said Berry, who finished third to make her second U.S. Olympic team. ‘I was pissed, to be honest.’

Toward the end of the anthem, Berry plucked up her black T-shirt with the words ‘Activist Athlete’ emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.

‘They had enough opportunities to play the national anthem before we got up there,’ she said. ‘I was thinking about what I should do. Eventually I stayed there and I swayed, I put my shirt over my head. It was real disrespectful.’

‘It really wasn’t a message. I didn’t really want to be up there. Like I said, it was a setup. I was hot, I was ready to take my pictures and get into some shade,’ added Berry.

‘They said they were going to play it before we walked out, then they played it when we were out there,’ Berry said. ‘But I don’t really want to talk about the anthem because that’s not important. The anthem doesn’t speak for me. It never has.’

USA Track and Field said the anthem was played every day at the trials according to a published schedule.

‘We didn’t wait until the athletes were on the podium for the hammer throw awards,’ spokeswoman Susan Hazzard said in a statement. ‘We’re thrilled with the women’s hammer throw team that selected themselves for the Games.’

Wah Wah Boo Hoo. I am getting sick and tired of these athletes using the Olympic Games as a platform to voice their non important opinions on how oppressed they are and how life doesn’t treat them right.
Suck it up butter cup. Life isn’t fair, never was and never will be. It’s what you make it that counts. If you don’t like the national anthem and what it means to the family members who lost loved ones defending this Great Country, I know over 80 million Americans that bleed red, white and Blue that will be more than happy to pack your crap and send you to a country of you liking. Maybe they can kiss your ass to your satisfaction. The US Olympic Committee should ban you, disrespectfully, for disrespecting the country you are going to represent. Why would we even think of sending a POS like you to represent us? If what I wrote and my Patriotism offends you, your lack of respect and lack of spine offends me more.

Yet she competed and did well. But now that we know her real motivation is to bitch, moan and be active about her “mistreatment” by wearing a shirt on her head (That’ll change society!) she can stay back and focus on that and let someone deserving and appreciative of the honor complete in Tokyo.

Crawl back under your rock. Ignorance is bliss snowflake. The flag and anthem are what give you the freedom to voice your dumbass opinion. You’re not worthy.

This is likely the reason why she is last in the top three list. If you don’t loved our country pack your crap and get the hell out. I really hope they give you hell during your entire olympic experience. You worked your butt off only to stand on that damn podium and pull this crap?
